Creation of a Black African Cultural Centre (ICAN) in Paris

Set up under French Law the ICAN will be a crossroad of cultures, a meeting place for exchanges and to help to spread the knowledge of African culture.

The ICAN will have several objectives:
-The facilitate exchanges communication and co-operation between the west and Africa in many domains (arts, sciences, technologies..)

-to develop and deepen in France and Europe, knowledge and comprehension of Black Africa, its languages and its civilisation, and its efforts to develop.

-Participate in increasing the scope of contacts and the strengthening of relations between Africa and northern countries.

Different cultural activities will be presented artistic, literary, philosophical, musical, cinema etc.

Debates will be organised on current themes, conferences, exhibitions. Literary prizes, entertainment and concerts.

These events will be co-produced with the cultural services of African Embassies, French and foreign institutions, associations, non-governmental organisations and museums.

In practice the ICAN will consist of:
- a library and reading room, bringing together works and periodicals concentrating on Black Africa.

- a space set aside for organisations and associations

- classrooms for teaching African languages

- a projection room for films and documentaries about Black Africa.

- a business centre to support French and European enterprises to export to or invest in Africa (in partnership with trade associations, investment groups and Chambers of Commerce and Industry)

An appeal is made to the good will of those who recognise the merits of this project and wish to be associated in its realisation.
